Frequently Asked Questions
Lead times, fitting by mail, repairs on other makers' saddles, payment and everything else people ask on the phone.
How long does a custom saddle take?
Four to eight weeks from the day the deposit clears and the spec sheet is approved. We tell you the current queue length before you pay anything, and we send progress photos at three stages of the build.
Can you fit a saddle if I live out of state?
Yes. We post a fitting kit with tracing paper and instructions, or you can send photos and wither tracings by email. Around a third of our builds are fitted this way and the process is documented on our Services page.
Do you repair saddles you did not build?
Always. Roughly two-thirds of the repair bench is other makers' work — Circle Y, Billy Cook, Tex Tan, Big Horn and plenty of unmarked older saddles.
What does a repair cost?
Simple work such as new billets or re-stitching a horn wrap starts at $85. Skirt replacement, new sheepskin or tree work is quoted after inspection, always in writing, always before we start.
Do you take trade-ins?
On occasion, against a new build. Bring the saddle in and we will make an honest offer or tell you it is worth more sold privately.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Cash, all major debit and credit cards, and bank transfer for custom builds. We do not store card details.
Can I visit without an appointment?
The showroom is open during posted hours. For a fitting with your horse, please book ahead so the stand and trees are ready and there is space for your trailer.
Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes, in any amount, valid for two years on goods and services.
Is your leather sourced in the USA?
Yes. Hermann Oak in Missouri and Wickett & Craig in Pennsylvania supply our skirting and harness leather. Trees come from a maker in Oregon.
How do I care for a new saddle?
Read our Care Guide. In short: clean before you condition, oil lightly twice a year, store it on a rack that supports the bars, and check the hardware every season.
