Who we are

A one-bench shop, not a warehouse

Richard Whitaker opened El Rey de las Monturas after fifteen years of repairing tack for neighbours on the family place outside Marysville. The shop still works the same way: one saddle on the stand at a time, leather cut from full sides, and a customer who can call the person who actually built it.

We keep a small stock of ready-to-ride saddles, pads and headstalls on the floor, and we take a limited number of custom orders each month so nothing gets rushed. If a piece leaves this shop with our name stamped in the fender, it was checked by hand before it went in the box.

  • Free saddle-fit check for every horse and rider we build for
  • Repairs, re-flocking, billet replacement and re-tooling on any brand
  • 30-day satisfaction window on in-stock goods

What riders tell us

“Richard rebuilt a 1970s Circle Y that had been in the family since my dad rode it. New skirts, new sheepskin, same saddle. It fits my mare better now than it ever did.”

Dana R. — Arlington, WA

“Ordered a roping saddle in March, picked it up six weeks later. He called twice during the build to check the seat depth. That does not happen at a big store.”

Luis M. — Yakima, WA

“I drove up from Portland for a fitting and left with a headstall and a plan. Straight answers, fair price, no pressure to buy the expensive tree.”

Ashley T. — Portland, OR
